Global Television the 3D solution for AFL and NRL Grand Finals
02-Sep-2010Global Television is proud to announce that it will help bring the 2010 AFL and NRL Grand Finals to life, live in 3D.
Global – Australia’s preeminent provider of 3D broadcast solutions – will provide 3D technical broadcast services and facilitation for the two biggest annual events on Australia’s sporting calendar.
In addition to the 3D NRL Grand Final telecast, Global will continue to facilitate Nine’s NRL Grand Final and finals series coverage in High Definition 2D format.
The NRL and AFL Grand Finals follow Global’s successful delivery of Australia’s first live 3D sporting events: the Australia-New Zealand soccer friendly for Fox Sports and 2010 NRL State of Origin series for the Nine Network in May/June, 2010.
Global CEO Keith Andrews said: “Global Television is uniquely resourced to meet the Australian television industry’s burgeoning demand for 3D capabilities.
“Our experience with Australia’s first live 3D sports events has given us great experience in delivering seamless 3D and 2D side-by-side telecasts and accommodating the specific needs of each production.”
Mr Andrews added that Global had recently established a 3D Business Unit to accelerate training and development of the Australian talent and intellectual property that are vital to delivering affordable 3D solutions.
“Australia’s barrier to 3D television is not due to any lack of technology but, rather, the insufficient depth of local expertise,” Mr Andrews said.
“Most of the expense in delivering 3D to date has come from the need to fly technical experts in from overseas. Global’s 3D Business Unit is charged with up-skilling our people to meet the challenge and ensure Global is Australia’s leading provider of 3D broadcast solutions.”
Under the leadership of Kel Robards, Global’s Executive Manager – Operations, Global’s 3D Business Unit coordinates technical and training options for delivering cost-affordable 3D solutions with major equipment vendors and film and television training centres.
The Unit also liaises with television broadcasters and key market players, both locally and offshore, to ensure the best outcomes in servicing demand.
