Global Television projects score five ASTRA nominations
01-Jun-2011Global Television congratulates its clients, Fox Sports and FOXTEL, on their nominations across several categories in the prestigious 2011 ASTRA Awards.
Global Television facilitated five of the shortlisted events on their behalf.
Recognising excellence in subscription television, ASTRA Awards finalists are peer-nominated.
Global broadcasts received three nominations in the highly competitive Most Outstanding Sports Program or Coverage Channel category:
- 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games (client: FOXTEL)
- JB Were Australian Masters Golf (client: IMG/FOX SPORTS)
- NRL Monday Night Football (client: FOX SPORTS)
Global is particularly proud to have contributed to two events nominated in the Most Outstanding Use of Innovation in Programming Channel category:
- 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games (client: FOXTEL)
- Socceroos in 3D (client: FOX SPORTS)
The Socceroos in 3D saw Global deliver an end-to-end technical 3D broadcast solution for Fox Sports Australia for the Australia/New Zealand soccer friendly from the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Working alongside Fox Sports, Global Television was able to plan and deliver the live 3D broadcast – which was Australia’s first ever live 3D event – within a period of two weeks.
For the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, Global designed, installed and operated the International Broadcast Centre (IBC). The hub for all Commonwealth Games broadcasting activity, the IBC handled
the sporting venues’ incoming television pictures and sound on behalf of the host broadcaster and distributed footage to FOXTEL and other international rights holders, and managed rights holders’ outgoing transmissions. Global Television serviced both the host broadcaster and rights holders with studio, play-out and on-air facilities.
This ambitious project marked the first time in Commonwealth Games history that the Games had been broadcast in High Definition digital.
The 9th Annual ASTRA Awards will take place on Thursday 21 July, 2011, at Sydney Theatre, Walsh Bay.
